The key to repeat business in your freelance business is keeping clients satisfied. It is not always easy, but there are methods and means to do so.
Without bragging too much, I do have several satisfied clients who seem to keep me filled with constant tasks.
So, I am doing something right.
I have taken a close look at why my clients are satisfied and I have decided to share with you the 7 best ways you can keep your freelance clients satisfied.
#1: Keep Freelance Clients Satisfied By Updating Them Often
I have found that most clients would rather hear from a freelancer too much than too little.
It is important that you keep your client “in the loop.”
The only time I will stop over-communicating with a client is if they ask me to.
#2: Keep Freelance Clients Satisfied By Always Providing Valuable Content
Maybe the client is asking for something quite simple and you do not see how it will offer value to their prospects and customers. But you know how you could add to that content to make it more valuable.
And just tell the client you added this because you felt it would attract more customers, prospects, etc…
Your clients will love you for it.
Here’s a hint… Nearly every article or blog post I write (ghost or with my name) is shared in all my social media groups. I don’t add it as part of the job, it is added value.
#3: Keep Freelance Clients Satisfied By Giving Free Advice
If you know something the client doesn’t and you are willing to share that information, you will gain trust and probably referrals.
I have actually taken dollars from my pocket in a couple circumstances where the client assumed they would need more than they actually did need. I pointed out the situation and lost several pages of content I could have made money from.
But it all circles around because that client has referred other clients that will build your freelance business to massive proportions.
#4: Keep Freelance Clients Satisfied By Knowing Your Client
By getting to know your clients on a more personal level, it can help you understand what will satisfy them. I suggest you take a close look at their social profiles, make small talk and ask questions. Learn more about them and you will be able to put a smile on their face.

It is imperative that you reply to client’s emails or phone messages as quick as possible. It is recommended that you contact back within 24 hours of receiving a message, but I say sooner is better… 6 hours.

Mistakes will happen!
But putting the blame on another person, your computer or some other outside item is not the way to satisfy a client.
I have found the best way is to just simply “own” the error even if it isn’t your fault, and do everything you can to fix it.

Maybe you have your opinion on how the project should go, but you know the client gave you explicit instructions on what they want.
I have had clients that wanted anything that was a “Header” to just be in bold and not resized to header.
It seemed just wrong, so I used the wise approach. I gave the client 2 files. One had it their way and I explained the other is how I normally would have completed the work.
The client appreciated it greatly.
Having steady clients is a key way to build a successful freelance business. If you stay loyal with them, many will stay loyal to you if you follow these tips.
If nothing else, even if a client is a one-time user, they will be happy to refer you when another person asks about freelancers.
